Professional medical service of Galactography / Ductography
What is Galactography?
Galactography is an x-ray examination that uses mammography technology (low-dose x-rays) along with a contrast material to obtain detailed images, called Galactograms, of the milk ducts inside the breast.
Why Should I Do It?
The primary use of galactography is to evaluate women who:
- Experience bloody or clear nipple discharge, with otherwise normal mammogram results. This procedure helps identify any underlying issues in the milk ducts that may be causing abnormal discharge.
Preparation Guidelines
- Nipple Care:
- Do not squeeze your nipple before the exam.
- Medication and Allergy Notification:
- Inform your physician about any medications you're taking and any known allergies, especially to barium or iodinated contrast materials.
- Health Information:
- Notify your doctor of any recent illnesses or other relevant medical conditions.
- Pregnancy Notification:
- Always inform your doctor or the x-ray technologist if there is any possibility that you might be pregnant.
- Avoid Deodorants and Lotions:
- As with mammography, avoid wearing deodorant, talcum powder, or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam.
- Clothing and Jewelry:
- You will be asked to remove all jewelry and clothing above the waist before the exam.
