thyroid

The thyroid gland is a small endocrine organ located in the front of the neck, playing a vital role in regulating metabolism and energy production in the body. It produces hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which influence the functions of multiple body systems. At RadCare Radiology Center, we offer advanced imaging techniques, including ultrasound and nuclear imaging, to accurately and effectively diagnose thyroid disorders.

Radioactive Contamination Test for the Thyroid Gland: Accuracy in Diagnosis and Comprehensive Care at RadCare

What is Thyroid Radiology Imaging?
Thyroid radiology imaging is a nuclear medical procedure that uses a gamma camera to precisely measure thyroid activity. This test relies on injecting a radioactive isotope into the body, which is primarily absorbed by the thyroid gland.
  • In a healthy gland, a moderate amount of iodine is absorbed by the body.
  • Hot Nodules: Absorb excessive amounts of iodine and indicate hyperactivity.
  • Cold Nodules: Do not absorb iodine and may indicate other disorders.

How Does the Test Work?
  1. Injection of a Radioactive Isotope:
    • A radioactive substance with a short half-life is injected.
  2. Imaging with Gamma Camera:
    • The camera captures images showing the distribution of the radioactive material in the gland.
  3. Results Analysis:
    • The images identify areas of increased or decreased activity to assess the gland’s condition.

Comprehensive Thyroid Diagnosis:
The radioactive contamination test for the thyroid is not the only test we offer. It is combined with:
  • Ultrasound Imaging: To identify structural changes.
  • Blood Tests: To assess TSH and T4 levels.
  • Elastography: To assess tissue elasticity and diagnose nodules.

Common Thyroid Diseases:
  1. Functional Disorders:
    • Hypothyroidism: Causes low metabolism, fatigue, and weight gain.
    • Hyperthyroidism: Leads to accelerated metabolism, weight loss, and heart rate disorders.
  2. Autoimmune Diseases:
    • Hashimoto’s Disease: Chronic inflammation leading to hypothyroidism.
    • Graves’ Disease: An autoimmune condition causing hyperthyroidism.
  3. Neoplasm-like Diseases:
    • Thyroid enlargement.
    • Thyroid cancer.

Importance of Early Diagnosis:
  • Improving Treatment Opportunities:
    • Early diagnosis allows immediate action to improve health conditions.
  • Preventing Complications:
    • Such as the effects of thyroid disorders on the heart and nervous system.
